Assessment plays a critical role in the daily lives of teachers and students. Over the years, it has changed from the traditional form of assessing students at the end of the unit or lesson to determine if students have mastered the presented material to a more functional method of assessing students during instruction. By assessing the students along the way, teachers can adjust their teaching to best meet the needs of the students. Another essential component we now use in the assessment process, is to include immediate and specific feedback to the students. By monitoring during the instruction, teachers can alter their instruction for student success before they reach the end of the unit, when it's considered too late.
